Do Cleanses and Detoxes Work?
First let me say that there is absolutely no medical reason for a detox diet. The body does not have to be 'cleaned' (or detoxed) the Liver, Kidneys ______ do a great job in getting rid of waste.
How They Hook You.
People who peddle detoxes try to scare you into thinking your intestines are dirty from excess buildup of waste (fecal matter). They also tell you that your body is toxic and you must detox it to prevent illness. It all sounds so good and logical that people fall for it hook line and sinker.

Clever marketers realized that Detoxes also caused weight loss. Eventhough this was mainly from dehydration, they started to market detoxes as weight loss 'diets'. What this meant is that people would use them much more frequently because they don't want to gain the weight back. So now it becomes a vicious cycle. Instead of using a cleanse a few times a year, now people were using them every few weeks to control their weight. This caused an explosion is $$$ for the detox industry. Remember what i said earlier: There is no medical indication for any type of cleanse. Even though marketers make it sound very 'medical' in nature, They say "Doctor Approved", "Board Certified Physician" etc., but the reality is, there is no medical reason to attempt to 'clean' out your intestines... none!
The Dangers:
The list of dangers include: dehydration, diarrhea, electrolyte imbalances, very low calorie intake, possible interactions with certain medications (depending on what's in the detox) and the list goes on. Detoxes can cause all types of problems but one of the biggest and least talked about is the psychological dependence on the detox 'diet'. The truth is that you can't follow a detox 'diet' for the rest of your life... but it's hard to stop. When you stop following it and begin to eat normally again, you start gaining your weight back. This sends you right back to the store for another round of detox. This is vicious cycle. Eventually you will become physically and mentally exhausted give up on following this type of diet. You go back to eating normally again... but things nave changed. Your metabolism is slower and you gain weight faster than ever. We all know people who've gone though this. Don't fall for the detox trap.
